About Baldwin Park – A Historic Landmark in the City Center
Elizabeth Baldwin Park is a 4.8-acre park located within the Midtown Houston neighborhood and owned by the City of Houston. Midtown Houston programs and maintains the park, bringing lively experiences to the historic destination. Acquired by the City of Houston in 1905, historic elements preserved at the site include the 100-year-old oak trees and the original fountain. The park is an active and passive recreational space for the surrounding community and was designed with a lawn and picnic area.
Recent park improvements by the Midtown Redevelopment Authority (MRA) honor the original design of the area and include new playground equipment to improve upon the existing outdoor learning opportunities. Compared to the park’s previous playground, the new play experiences provide a 250% increase in physical and sensory development opportunities and expand play areas for cognitive, social, and language skills development by 300%, 180%, and 11%, respectively.
