Anthony Ray Hinton will join us to share his story of living on Alabama’s death row for 30 years…for a crime he did not commit. Mr. Hinton was convicted of murdering two fast-food restaurant managers based on a theory manufactured by state prosecutors. Without the benefit of a competent expert to challenge the state’s theory, an all-white jury convicted Mr. Hinton and sentenced him to death. Thirty years later in 2015, with help from the Equal Justice Initiative and attorney Bryan Stevenson, three independent experts concluded that the state’s theory had been falsified, and Mr. Hinton was freed. Remarkably, Mr. Hinton was a source of hope and joy for others on death row. His is an extraordinary story of faith, compassion, and the fortitude of the human spirit.
