Live Music Movement Foundation is excited to invite you to a special evening with renowned bassist Marcos Varela, who will be performing live at the Houston Piano Company on November 1 at 7:00 pm. One night only.
Varela, a master of both acoustic and electric bass, has earned a reputation as one of the most sought-after musicians on the New York jazz scene and beyond. His impressive career includes collaborations with jazz icons like The Mingus Big Band, Ingrid Jensen, Billy Hart, and even Broadway star Leslie Odom, Jr. With such a rich background, Varela’s performances are always an unforgettable experience.
The evening will showcase music from his latest album, San Ygnacio, which will be available on CD starting March 18, 2025. The album is a tribute to Varela’s deep family roots in San Ygnacio, Texas, where his ancestors have lived since the 1750s. Now based in New York, Varela—a graduate of Houston’s own High School for the Performing & Visual Arts—draws from his Texas heritage, blending the rhythms of jazz with the rich sounds of Mexican culture. This deeply personal project has allowed him to explore and celebrate the intersection of these musical influences, and he’s eager to share this journey with audiences.
The performance at the Houston Piano Company is a stop on the San Ygnacio Project 2024 fall ten-city tour, featuring Marcos Varela on bass and compositions, Carter Arrington on guitar, and Daniel Dufour on drums.
This promises to be an evening of extraordinary music and cultural connection, one you won’t want to miss. Tickets are available now on our website: $25 in advance, $30 at the door, and $15 for students (available at the door only, for students 17 and under). Tickets are also available on eventbrite.com.
