Explore how the traditions of Buddhism and analytical psychology can enrich our understandings of the mind and of psychological development.
C.G. Jung is known as the first psychoanalyst to take a genuine interest in Buddhism, and is even quoted as once saying that “the goal in psychotherapy is exactly the same as in Buddhism.” Yet, as Jung also noted, it is not so easy to determine if there are any real, structural similarities between Buddhism and Jungian psychology, apart from their common search for ‘wholeness’. Focusing on key notions such as enlightenment and individuation, karma and complex, no-self and the unconscious, we will explore how, taken together, the traditions of Buddhism and analytical psychology can enrich our understandings of the mind and of psychological development.
