The award-winning Houston Youth Symphony (HYS)continues its 2023/24 Season with the Winter Concert, featuring all five youth orchestras, at Stude Concert Hall at Rice University on Sunday, February 4, 2024. Winter Concert I, beginning at 2:30 PM, features the Debut String Orchestra, under the direction of Jackson Guillén; the String Orchestra, under the direction of Angela Peugnet; and the Sinfonia led by conductor Brad Smith. The program includes Cinema Paradiso from the movie Cinema Paradiso by Ennio Morricone, performed by the Debut String Orchestra; Sinfonia IV in C minor by F. Mendelssohn, performed by the String Orchestra; and Edward Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite performed by the Sinfonia.
Winter Concert II, beginning at 7:00 PM, features the two most advanced HYS orchestras, the Philharmonia led by Conductor Michael Isadore and the Symphony conducted
by Artistic Director Dr. Michael Webster. Program highlights include Scissor-Tailed by Jaylin Vinson performed by the Philharmonia; and Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, C minor (Resurrection), movements I and IV, performed by the Symphony and guest Mezzo Soprano,Luisana Rivas.
