Houston is an “it” city – multicultural, vibrant, and brimming with creativity. In this generative workshop, we will look at examples of writing about Houston in multiple genres as we practice writing poetry, fiction, and nonfiction inspired by this sprawling metropolis. From music to museums, from highways to hotels, everything is fair game as we write, share, discuss, and come up with new ways to capture our thoughts about one of the most captivating cities in America.
Writers are free to bring photos or mementos of Houston that inspire them, and everyone should leave with an idea or draft for a project that involves writing about a city that will never run out of fascinating people, places, and things that make it unique.
This event is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance. This project is generously funded by the Houston Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs, and Mid-America Arts Alliance.
