The “Scott Joplin Chamber Orchestra,” led by Music Director Dr. Anne Lundy, will be performing, and we’re excited to invite you to this FREE event. Here’s a glimpse of what you can expect:
Opening Performance: The concert kicks off with a special moment where the audience will sing along with the orchestra to “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
Classical Excellence: Experience the timeless compositions of Chevalier de Saint Georges (Joseph Boulogne), including his mesmerizing symphony in G major. Saint Georges’ music has gained recognition in recent years, thanks to its inclusion in various films and classical ensembles’ performances.
Hip-Hop Fusion: The first half of the concert culminates with an exciting fusion of family-friendly hip-hop music, featuring a rapper, vocalist, and orchestra. Enjoy popular hits like “Glory” by Common and John Legend, as well as the iconic theme song from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
Intermission: Take a break, mingle with fellow music enthusiasts, and grab some refreshments.
Powerful Tribute: After intermission, be moved by “Free at Last,” a composition by African American composer Lena Johnson McLin. This piece showcases the orchestra, a vocal ensemble, soprano and baritone soloists, along with a narrator reciting three of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous speeches.
