HMC Artistic Director, Dr. Paulo Gomes, and the Houston Masterworks Chorus take you on a musical journey, featuring timeless holiday favorites that evoke the spirit of the season.
*Featuring organist, Grant Smith and the winner of the HMC Young Singer Competition.
An annual celebration spreading joy to all! Our holiday season concert featuring Saint-Saëns Oratorio de Noël with traditional carols and contemporary holiday favorites, all showcasing the versatility and talent of our singers.
During the performance, Dr. Gomes encourages audience members to share childhood holiday memories and choral singers of all ages are invited to join us on stage for a Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus sing-along.
In 1858, Camille Saint-Saëns composed his oratorio for five vocal soloists, mixed choir, strings, organ, and harp. The work, sung in Latin, is based on texts from the Old and New Testaments, the Psalms and Gospels, as well as the Catholic Christmas liturgy. Distinctive chamber music-like instrumentation, with lyrical solos combine to create a peaceful, pastoral mood bringing in the Christmas season.
LUX Movement Number IV. Gloria in Excelsis – Dan Forrest. The fourth movement of this new composition expresses infectious rhythmic energy, soaring vocal lines, and sparkling accompaniment bringing joy to choirs and audiences alike.
Whether you’re a choral music enthusiast or simply a lover of the holiday season, Christmas with Masterworks, Rejoice! is an event you won’t want to miss. Join us for an unforgettable afternoon of music and celebration.
