Architecture Walk: Courthouse District

$7 – $10

Event Admission

Admission is $10 per person for the general public ($7 for Preservation Houston members and students.) Children 11 years old and under are admitted free. Advance ticket purchase is required. Reservations are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. We are not able to accommodate walk-ups the day of the tour. There are no refunds for tour reservations. Registrants will receive parking and check-in information via e-mail. In the event of inclement weather that prevents the tour from being offered as planned, we will notify registrants as far in advance as possible about their options to attend a rescheduled tour or transfer their reservations to another Preservation Houston tour.

As large as it is, Houston shares a feature with dozens of small towns across Texas: a courthouse square. On Sunday evening, June 16, we’ll take a look at the history and architecture of the neighborhood surrounding the Harris County Courthouse — one of Houston’s most historic areas.

The 90-minute, docent-guided walking tour will feature interesting and often amusing stories of Harris County government, tales of the elite 19th-century neighborhood of Quality Hill and the stories behind some of downtown’s oldest buildings. Among the highlights of the tour are the restored 1910 Harris County Courthouse, the c. 1858 Pillot Building and Christ Church Cathedral, which has occupied its site on Texas Avenue since 1839.
