Alchemy and Jung (Online)

Join us for this exploration of the psychospiritual and symbolic significance of various alchemical images the prima materia, the spirit of Mercurius, the lapis or philosopher’s stone, the alchemical vessel, the different stages and operations of the alchemical process, and much more. For C.G. Jung, what the modern psychotherapists see in their patients’ psyche, the alchemists saw in the chemicals they worked with. Before it transformed into scientific chemistry, medieval alchemy was a precursor of the modern study of the unconscious. It provided – and, as a metaphor, continues to provide – a historical model that can help us to observe the transformation of the human personality in practice. Over four weeks, this course will provide an introductory overview of Jung’s career-long endeavor to interpret and preserve the wisdom of alchemy.
