Offshoots: A Celebration of Musical Lineage

A concert of works for solo violin celebrating musical lineage, mentorship, and the ties that bind together performers, composers, and audiences alike. In this recital at Archway Gallery, Jacob Schafer will present the world premieres of “The Sound of Sleepless Nights” by Nicky Sohn and “who brings on evening” by Max Vinetz. These two works were commissioned for this project in response to Michael Friedmann’s “Fantasy for Solo Violin” and Gabriela Lena Frank’s “Suite Mestiza,” which will also be performed on the program. Taken together, these four works explore the composers’ heritage and experiences, pay homage to the important mentors in their lives, and celebrate the interconnectedness of the cultural and musical scenes in Houston and across the country.
